Frequently Asked Questions

What does Home and Community Based (HCS) in Texas offer?

Home and Community Based Services (HCS) is considered by many the gold standard for serving people with intellectual developmental disabilities in the state of Texas. HCS offers an array of services from residential services to minor home modification. Please click on the link below for various services HCS offers.

I know I want HCS services, but don’t have a slot. Who do I call to get on the waiting list for HCS services?

You can start by either contacting us or contact your local LIDDA. LIDDA stands for “Local Intellectual Developmental Disability Authority.” LIDDAs are the gatekeepers of HCS slots — they put people on the list. Texas has around 39 LIDDAs. (https://apps.hhs.texas.gov/contact/la.cfm) In the past, they were county agencies, and many have changed their names over the years. For example, Dallas County MHMR is now known as “Dallas MetroCare Services.” Because there are 254 counties in the state of Texas, the vast majority of LIDDAs serve multiple counties. The following is a list of LIDDAs we currently coordinate with, and we will be expanding throughout 2022.
